The Brown University Acute Pain Service strives to provide state-of-the-art acute pain control in a compassionate, supportive environment. Our division consists of a core group of fellowship trained regional anesthesiologists, anesthesiologists with extensive experience treating acute pain, anesthesiology resident physicians, and a qualified nurse practitioner.
We support patients with their pain before, during and after surgery. Our goals include employing advanced regional anesthesia techniques to achieve effective pain control, reduce opioid consumption, optimize recovery, improve outcomes, and increase patient satisfaction. We take an active role as acute pain management physicians in virtually all surgical specialties and subspecialties within the hospital and treat both nonsurgical and trauma related pain.
In addition to the commitment to excellence in patient care, the Acute Pain Service is dedicated to furthering the discipline of regional anesthesia and training the next generation of acute pain specialists. Resident physicians from the Brown University Anesthesiology Residency form an integral part of our team; they present at numerous regional anesthesia conferences and are involved in trials, publications, and quality improvement projects. We contribute to the training of medical students from the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and student nurse anesthetists. Our department is active in regional anesthesia societies and conferences and our physicians have numerous publications with multiple ongoing research studies.
By utilizing the latest in regional anesthesia techniques to improve pain control, enhance postoperative recovery and mobility, reduce opioid consumption, and reduce overall length of stay, the Brown University Acute Pain Service is committed to improving health care for all.
