Obstetric Anesthesia

Our obstetric anesthesiology leaders are widely known nationally and internationally, publishing frequently and taking leadership roles within various professional societies.

Our residents gain their obstetric anesthesia experience at Women and Infants Hospital, a high-risk tertiary care center devoted to reproductive and women’s health. Women and Infants Hospital has a delivery volume of 8,500 births/year, making it the largest in New England and amongst the nation's busiest.  85% of the births in the State of Rhode Island occur at Women & Infants and more than 80% of these patients will request anesthesia services. A substantial number of high-risk patients will receive multidisciplinary subspecialty care.

Our obstetric anesthesiology leaders are widely known nationally and internationally, publishing frequently and taking leadership roles within various professional societies. We aim to provide evidence-based, cutting-edge perioperative and delivery care to birthing people in Providence. Residents spend two consecutive months on the obstetric anesthesia service and continue to receive exposure to obstetrics throughout their training.
