Brown Anesthesiology matriculates 24 advanced (PGY2) residents each year. All positions are filled via the National Residency Match Program (NRMP) and applications are exclusively accepted via the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). The residency program has been granted a 10-year accreditation by the American Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

For applicants that wish to spend all four years of post-graduate training in the Providence, RI area, the program offers “reserved” PGY-1 Preliminary Medicine programs with:
- Brown Internal Medicine
- Roger Williams Medical Center Internal Medicine
- Landmark Medical Center Internal Medicine
Applications for the 2026 Main Residency Match will be reviewed by program leaders in early October. Virtual interviews for selected candidates will be conducted in the first two weeks of November. Opportunities for interviewed candidates to visit Brown in-person will be made available in early 2026.
Representatives from these programs will participate in the interview process at Brown Anesthesiology. Separate interviews are NOT required, but applicants will need to rank these programs on their supplemental list if interested. More details will be provided to those selected for interview at Brown.
Applications will continue to be reviewed by the selection committee on a rolling basis until December 31, 2025. A complete application must consist of the following:
- Personal Statement
- Photograph
- Three (3) Letters of Recommendation, one of which must be from an anesthesiologist
- USMLE Scores
- Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE)
- Medical School Transcript
- At least one rotation/experience in Anesthesia
Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. Candidates do NOT need to complete an away rotation at Brown to be considered eligible.
