Anesthesiology Residency Program
Resident education will be both formal and informal, occurring daily. An intensive and multi-modality formal educational program based on the American Board of Anesthesiology Content Outline has been developed and will include traditional lectures, case-based conferences, peer-review of current literature, simulation, flipped-classroom sessions and mock oral and OSCE exams. Residents will also receive intensive education and hands-on experience in the use of perioperative ultrasound, including transesophageal echocardiography and transthoracic echocardiography.
The formal didactic program will be split into 2 tracks - a BASIC curriculum during the CA-1 year and an ADVANCED curriculum during the CA-2 and CA-3 years. Residents will also participate in weekly departmental meetings that will include (but is not limited to) visiting professors, presentations by both residents and faculty, and combined surgery-anesthesia M&M conferences.
Informally, a core component of the resident's educational experience will be daily patient-specific or rotation-specific education. Residents and their assigned attendings will collaborate to identify areas for discussion. Residents will be expected to prepare daily by reading relevant texts or primary literature.
